Driving Directions

Messenger Sailing Adventures is located near the airport in Portland, Oregon, on the historic Columbia River. We are centrally located for sailing students, renters, and charterers in the greater Portland/Vancouver area, and frequently have sailors communiting from far corners of the Pacific Northwest. We're on the water at Portland Sailing Center at Harbor One Marina on N.E. Marine Drive, just north of Portland International Airport. Print the following directions or visit www.mapquest.com and enter "3307 Marine Drive, Portland, OR" for their version.

Driving from Interstate 5
When arriving from Interstate 5, either northbound or southbound, take Exit 307, Marine Drive, and access Marine Drive eastbound. Harbor One can be found 1000 feet (2/10 mile) east of the intersection of 33rd Ave. and Marine Drive. See Parking/Marina text below for arrival details. If you find yourself driving past Salty's on the Columbia restaurant you've missed Harbor One.

Driving from Interstate 205
Marine Drive cannot be accessed directly from Interstate 205. Take the eastbound exit of Airport Way and drive to 122nd Ave., then left (north) to Marine Drive, and turn left again. You are headed west, now. Proceed past the airport to the Harbor One parking lot. It is easy to miss; comes soon after Rodger Marine Electronics. If you reach the intersection with 33rd Ave, you've gone a thousand feet too far. See Parking/Marina text below for arrival details.

Driving from Northeast Portland (three approaches)
1. Take 33rd Ave. north from I-84 all the way to Marine Dr. There is a confusing bridge where 33rd leaves the residential area and crosses Lombard and Columbia. Proceed onto the bridge, then move to the right lane. This will take you up to your right on a single lane ramp that will then turn west and drop down to another fork. Take the right fork and this will carry you north on 33rd Drive. Continue a mile or so to the stop sign at Marine Drive, then turn right. See Parking/Marina text below for arrival details.

2. Via Columbia Blvd. from the east, driving westbound. Immediately past Broadmoor golf course clubhouse take the gentle right turn — an exit ramp, really, rather than going under the looming overpass. This ramp is not well signed, if at all. It will lead you to 33rd Drive. Proceed north to Marine Dr. and turn right, east. See Parking/Marina text below for arrival details.

3. Via Columbia Blvd. from the west, driving eastbound. As 33rd Ave. approaches you will see a concrete overpass. Well before reaching this overpass you must turn right. This is poorly signed, if at all. This right turn will immediately swing around to the left, under Columbia Blvd., and you will be northbound on 33rd Avenue. Proceed north to Marine Dr. and turn right, east. Proceed 1000 feet (2/10 mile) to Harbor One.

Parking/Marina
You will find the Harbor One parking lots by looking for the Harbor One sign on the north side of the road, 1000 feet (2/10 mile) east of 33rd Ave. You can park in the lot that the sign faces — this is the "upper" parking lot — or proceed 200 feet east to the end of the fence. Enter the main parking lot here.

Now look for the gate and ramp that lead you down to the river. Proceed ahead to the very end of the dock. Portland Sailing Center is on the left.

Call Cliff at (503) 519-9612 or the PSC office at (503) 281-6529 if you need help.

Directions to Cascade Locks dock:
I-84 east to exit 44. Exit and proceed straight through town until you see Cascade Locks Marine Park, well signed, on your left. Enter and proceed under the railroad tracks and turn right. Proceed to the boat basin at the end of the drive.
